Here's a
few Linux
Downloads

DSL-Linux
47.8 MB - Damn small Linux - Version
2.3
Puppy
Linux
71.3 MB - A Small Linux Version 2.01 that works great, and installable
on a usb pen drive!
Xandros
645.9 MB - A
Debian based Linux Version 3.02
Ubuntu 5.10
633.5 MB - It just works! Works great on older systems, and for troubleshooting.
Ubuntu 10.04
699.2 MB - Again, the newest release. This is the newest
version.
It lets you try it OR install it. It's
definitely worth a try. It is super fast on startup and shutdown. It
also features the new grub2 boot loader. So far the fastest! Easy to
install, easy to use. You'll need to give it a try!
Linux
XP
620.48 MB - A Linux Operating system
that is very
user friendly. It has (like most Linux systems) to
install different windows programs. It
has a
complete software bundle included, and advertised as not vulnerable to
viruses and spyware. It has a 99-time boot time period before
it
asks you to register it, which gives you full access to all
upgrades from that distributor.
Mepis
679.3 MB - The latest version - 6.5
release
candidate 1_32. So far, it really seems to work with wireless. I'm
testing it with Broadcom wireless, and didn't have to install
additional drivers. It is also fairly fast. For me, its biggest
downfall is it doesn't offer the GNOME desktop, it only offers KDE, but
if your video is capable, it will also do KDE-3D.
Vector Linux
550.5 MB - Version 5.8 Std Gold. A fast os using the XFCE desktop,
Slackware based with the LILO bootloader. It's small for a full os, and
is full of features with Firefox, Thunderbird, and OpenOffice.
SAM-2007
699 MB - A neat little operating system that uses the XCFE desktop.
It has a rather neat design and GUI for using the WINE
emulator.
It was the easiest time I ever had installing my Quicken program and
Office 2000. I didn't have to use any commerical software to get
installed and working. I'm sure with a little tinkering you
would
be able to install and run your MS-compatible games as well.
It
is worth checking out.
Open
Office
128mb - A super replacement for Microsoft Office.
You can
view/edit word, excel, powerpoint documents with ease. This
is
the newest version 2.3 release. This is also the standard
office
package that is installed by default in linux. This is the
windows version. Download it and test it out!
Ubuntu 9.10 is the newest version to
date. It
is a very solid release. If you already have 9.04, you really
don't need to download it. Use your update manager and perform the
upgrade. I try to make the newest
version available when it becomes available.
The
DSL-linux is a very small
version of linux which is a great Live! CD version that can be
installed to your hard drive. Puppy Linux is a cool little
version of linux that will fit on a 128mb jump drive of which I have
done. You can keep your files on your jumpdrive along with
your
operating system.
If you use Firefox and
are having problems downloading the files, Right-click on the download
(i.e. "DSL-Linux) and left-click on "Save Link as.." - it will then ask
you where to save the ISO file. This problem isn't occurring with
Internet Explorer.
